The Great North

The snowy drifts, piled high
against the pale blue sky,
melt away in icy streams
that run down the roads,
newly freed from the burden of cold.

A wind blows through the branches
of trees stretching to meet the warmth
of the sun's radiant beams
pouring light against nature.

Birds fly through the cloudless sky
returning from a long winter's journey,
hoping to make a new home
in this familiar land.

Streams gurgle happily
as they surge through the forests,
freed from winter's icy prison.
The world is awakening once again.
Light will pour across this barren land,
breathing life into all it touches.

The snow and cold will leave,
warmth will return to us
who live in this place
that we call home.
