The World's Fate

And the world paused
As if drawing a deep breath
All around me came stillness
The calm before the storm

And the people stood in silence
Staring at each other
Then with a mighty rumble
The storm came upon the world

Lightning flashed and thunder roared
Destroying all that I held dear
Then someone yelled "This is not right!"
With shock I saw it was myself

And the world paused
Then began to change
All around me
Things returned the same

The world paused
As if drawing a deep breath
All around me came stillness
The calmed before the storm

And I stood in silence
Knowing what is to come
Unable to change a thing
Unable to change our fate

And then the storm broke
On me and me alone
No time to realize
I'd taken the world's fate
Upon myself
